Stan, as an expert witness, can help either the prosecution or the defence by addressing the toxicology findings (i.e. the presence of a drug and/or alcohol in the blood/urine) and their subsequent interpretation. He can, for example:
- Review the findings and comments of the analytical scientist and comment accordingly.
- Interpret the significance of the concentrations of a drug/alcohol, or drugs, found in an individual to the potential effects that they may have had at a particular time.
- Interpret the significance of the concentrations of a drug (alcohol), or drugs, found in an individual in relation to the allegation of the administration of an overdose.
- Interpret the significance of the concentrations of a drug, or drugs, found in an individual to help determine if they may or may not have been addicted to that drug.
